Adult content rules in X: tagging, profile and safe publishing

Platform rules change, so it is dangerous to base a strategy on retellings from closed chats. What is important for the author is not the memory of old norms, but the habit of checking the settings and official rules before controversial publication. It provides sound practical principles without attempting to supersede the current terms and conditions of X.

What allowing adult content means in practice

You can post voluntarily created and voluntarily shared adult content on X, as long as it is properly labeled. However, such content should not appear in the most visible elements of the account. Avatar, profile cover, list and community covers should remain safe for the general feed.

This rule is also useful for promotion. A neutral, recognizable avatar portrait is easier to remember, and a neat cover explains the style of the page without the risk of showing a random visitor something they didn't choose.

Marking sensitive media

If explicit content is published regularly, enable the appropriate setting for published media. For individual publications, use one-time markings if available. The blur may reduce the number of instant views, but it gives the audience choice and protects the account from systematic complaints about untagged materials.

Blur, cropping, or emoji on top of the image does not always make the scene safe. The overall meaning of the frame is important, not just the visibility of individual details. If the material is intended to be sexually arousing or shows sexual activity, it is wiser to treat it as adult content.

Consent and rights to the material

Each person in the frame must be an adult and consent to both filming and publication. These two consents cannot be considered the same. Keep documents and permissions in a secure place, keep clear records of scenes, and do not publish material if the origin of the file is in doubt.

You should not take other people's private recordings, hidden footage, leaks or images that the person did not agree to distribute. You cannot pass off someone else's face or body as your own. In addition to platform rules, such actions can have serious legal consequences.

What not to turn into a promotional device

Do not use themes of minors, lack of consent, coercion or actual violence as a way to attract attention. The age of the model and participants must be clear. If the image, caption or subject matter leaves reasonable doubt, it is better to choose another material.

Do not send unsolicited explicit images in replies or private messages. What is acceptable behind a warning in your own post may become objectionable content when sent directly to another person.

Links and Advertising Promises

The link should go where the caption promises. Do not mask the final address, do not change the purpose of an already promoted link, and do not use fake discounts. The referral page should clearly show the owner, age limit, and official directions.

Repeating the same link in each answer is also a bad idea. The platform prohibits bulk, duplicate and irrelevant posts created for the sake of artificial traffic. A link is appropriate where it continues the topic and really helps the interested person.

What to do before publishing

• Check that all participants are adults and have consented to distribution.
• Make sure the media has the correct labeling enabled.
• Look at the avatar and cover separately from the feed.
• Check the signature for prohibited or misleading promises.
• Open the link in a private window and make sure the address works.
